Accountant

Golden State Opportunity, a statewide public-private partnership organization leading one of the most effective anti-poverty organizations in the country, seeks full- or part-time Accountant (20-25 hours/week). Ideal candidates will have non-profit experience, including but not limited to tracking and evaluating day-to-day activities of an organization with a multi-million dollar budget, experience managing and reporting on multiple active grants in defined grants periods, as well as tracking restricted and unrestricted funds.

Location: California (Los Angeles preferred)
Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:  

  • Establish financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting information
  • Manage and oversee the daily budgetary operations of GSO
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
  • Coordinate and complete annual audits
  • Provide recommendations on systems and procedural improvements, and initiate corrective actions
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including:
    • Month- and year-end processes
    • Accounts payable/receivable
    • Cash receipts
    • General ledger
    • Payroll and utilities
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Revenue and expenditure variance analysis
    • Account reconciliations
    • Tracking of restricted/unrestricted funds

Job Requirements:

  • Proven working experience as an Accountant at a non-profit company managing a multi-million dollar budget and tracking multiple grants and grant periods
  • Advanced computer skills in accounting software and databases
  • Experience with Quickbooks online
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
