Field Director

Golden State Opportunity (GSO) seeks a Field Director to join our growing team. One of the core strengths of GSO is our commitment to community organizing. We are able to engage key local stakeholders, elected officials and community members in our efforts to educate low-income workers, parents, older Californians and young adults about the federal and California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC). In addition, we leverage these relationships for our advocacy efforts in Sacramento and Washington, DC and other culture changing campaigns we run to ensure financial security for low-income workers.

Our focus is on reaching workers who would be impacted the most by the CalEITC and other public benefit programs, specifically single moms, parents, older Californians and young adults. These are difficult to reach communities and even harder to engage in action. We utilize a surround-sound approach including direct mail, texting, digital/social outreach and media engagement. We are always iterating to find the most effective vehicles and programs to reach our goals.

As a statewide organization, GSO has four offices across the state. Therefore, the successful candidate will be self-motivated and know how to work independently with excellent communication skills for working with remote regional offices. A sense of humor is mandatory.

The Field Director will oversee teams throughout the state, capturing and creating best practices, in order to develop models that can scale across the state and eventually nationwide. The successful candidate will have experience in traditional organizing and targeting in order to effectively reach low-income workers — a constituency that is hard to reach. Experience with direct mail and motivational text programs expected. Our next Field Director should have creativity in approaching field work, curiosity about utilizing new or different technologies and excellent management skills.

About GSO

Golden State Opportunity (GSO) has quickly become one of the most effective anti-poverty organizations in the country. With our principal program, CalEITC4Me, we have led in the creation and expansion of the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), one of the strongest tools to alleviate poverty while stimulating the economy.

Through innovative digital outreach, grassroots organizing, coalition building, earned and paid media, and mobile messaging campaigns, GSO runs a multi-layered and cost-effective outreach program to spread awareness of the California and Federal EITC, as well as other public benefits, and promotes free tax preparation services.

In just this last year, GSO led in the effort to successfully double the CalEITC, increasing it to a $1 billion program, and making it one of the largest anti-poverty initiatives in the country. We helped over 4 million families in California receive $4 billion through the California and Federal EITC.
