SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 14, 2020 — In response to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s May Revise to his proposed 2020-2021 budget, Golden State Opportunity President Amy Everitt issued the following statement:

“While I applaud Governor Newsom for maintaining the CalEITC as a $1 billion program, he is handicapping its effectiveness by cutting the education and outreach grants that support it. In fact, outreach to all current and newly eligible Californians who are struggling with financial insecurity amidst COVID-19 is more critical than ever. Millions of middle class Californians have lost their jobs and will now be eligible for the EITC refund but don’t know about it. That is why we are strongly urging the Legislature to restore this funding so every eligible worker gets the cash they have already earned.”
