About the Position

Golden State Opportunity seeks an experienced Operations Director to join its growing team. As a member of the senior management team reporting directly to the GSO President, this position will lead the organization’s operations, administration and human resources. GSO is looking for someone who is skilled at long-term operational strategies and growing an efficient, effective organization. This position will work with the senior management team to meet short, mid and long-term goals and objectives. An ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills and enjoy finding solutions to complex challenges. An ability to inspire and engage the staff while also maintaining day-to-day accountability will be critical for this position. GSO staff work hard so they take fun seriously — a sense of humor is essential.



  • Create and manage GSO organizational budgets, as well as program and project budgets in coordination with the senior management team

  • Work closely with accounting consultants in managing budgets, billing and invoicing, banking, expenditure tracking and reconciliation, as well as purchasing

  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration

  • Work closely with senior management and other key staff to ensure compliance in reporting to funders

  • Oversight of the operations in each regional office, including IT asset management


  • Lead on all GSO platforms, accounts and subscriptions including Google Workspace

  • Review, draft and facilitate execution of incoming and outgoing contracts

  • Oversee new software implementation including a new CRM and project management system

  • Keep abreast of federal, state and local laws and regulations and ensure continued compliance

  • Manage monthly payroll


  • Oversee onboarding of new employees including contracts and legal forms, orientations and trainings, and manage offboarding separations and terminations

  • Manage the talent acquisition and recruitment process from diversified candidate pools — including but not limited to job postings, interview screens, and reference and background checks

  • Manage yearly performance review process and maximize its effectiveness to drive performance, professional development and career pathways of current and future employees, as well as inform training needs for managers and staff

  • Manage inclusive professional development and career pathway program, developing internal talent pipeline

  • Administer benefits programs ensuring streamlined implementation for new hires and seamless implementation of new benefits

Skills and Experience

  • 8-10 years in a senior operations or administration leadership role with human resource experience

  • Strong background in developing and managing budgets and work plans

  • Excellent communication and writing skills, and strong interpersonal skills with experience in problem-solving and conflict resolution

  • Knowledge of Google Workspace administration preferred; Knowledge of platforms such as ADP, Expensify,, and other administrative and budgeting software a plus

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and lead multiple projects, activities, and actions with competing deadlines and levels of urgency

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy under deadline

  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment

Compensation and Benefits:

The annualized salary band for the Operations Director with Golden State Opportunity is $120K-$180K. This band is commensurate with the experience of qualified candidates.
