Women’s Wellness Conference

Recently, the Golden State Opportunity team joined the staff at Central City Neighborhood Partners for their fifth annual Women’s Wellness Conference called “Empowered Women Empower Women: Validating Our Power and Influencing Others.”

Central City Neighborhood Partners

Created in honor of Women’s History Month, this three-day female empowerment conference recognized the resilience of women in Los Angeles’s Westlake and Pico-Union communities.

Attendees learned about making money moves, planning for the future, women’s health, meditation, self-care and much more.

They also had the opportunity to get their taxes done by CCNP’s outstanding Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) team which is continuing to accept appointments for free, IRS-certified tax prep through April 18.

On the final day of the conference, GSO President Amy Everitt gave a keynote address to the inspiring group of women, including many who launched small businesses to support their families during the pandemic.

“What you’re doing and what you’re learning here is so vital and important,” she said. “Through your hard work, your perseverance, and your leadership. You are lifting up not only your families but your entire community.”

In Amy’s keynote speech, she encouraged women to file their taxes and claim the CalEITC, share their stories with legislators, even when it can be very difficult to do so.

At the close of the conference, Assemblymember Miguel Santiago presented CCNP’s Executive Director Margarita Alvarez Gomez with a “Woman of the Year” award, recognizing her tireless work on behalf of Los Angeles’s low-income women and families.

Congratulations to Margarita and the CCNP team on the success of their moving and motivational women’s conference!
