Golden State Opportunity is pleased to welcome Jesse Bloom to its Board of Directors—a role that feels less like a new beginning and more like the next chapter in a relationship that has already made a difference for GSO.

Jesse first connected with Golden State Opportunity as a nonprofit finance consultant. She led the team GSO hired to support its accounting and finance work and eventually stepped into the role of interim Chief Financial Officer. During her time with GSO, she helped streamline accounting and finance processes, trained the Board on nonprofit finance and fiduciary responsibilities, and served as a thought partner to President and CEO Amy Everitt and the executive team.

But for Jesse, the work was never just about getting the books in order. “I love the organization’s purpose,” Jesse said. “It gives power to people who may not know they have it by putting money back into their pockets. Anytime we can empower people who don’t think they have power, I’m all in.”

That commitment is what made the decision to join GSO’s Board an easy one. When Jesse accepted her current role as Chief Financial Officer at Telfair Museums, it also created the perfect opportunity to continue the work she had started at GSO—this time from a different perspective. In her new role, she brings more than 20 years of financial leadership experience, much of it focused on helping nonprofit organizations strengthen their financial systems and build the capacity to focus on their missions.

For GSO President and CEO Amy Everitt, Jesse’s return to the organization is about much more than her financial expertise. “Jesse has always understood that the numbers are only one part of the story,” said Everitt. “She cares deeply about what those numbers make possible—an organization that can do more, reach more people and build a future where economic dignity is the baseline. We’re thrilled to have her bring that same passion and perspective to our Board.”

Jesse’s connection to GSO comes back to a simple belief: people should have the power and resources to shape their own lives. “It’s important that people have representation in spaces where they may feel they don’t have power,” Jesse said. “That’s what drew me to GSO.”

Now, she’s excited to help the organization build on what it has already accomplished. “I’d love to see GSO build on its success in California and expand its impact nationally,” Jesse said. “The vision for where this organization can go next is incredibly exciting.”

For GSO, having Jesse back in the room means bringing in someone who already knows the organization, believes in its mission and has helped build the systems that make its work possible. It also means gaining a board member who knows that good financial stewardship isn’t the end goal—it’s what allows an organization to dream bigger.
