Upward Project Launches in Dallas

Dallas, Texas is a thriving city marked by unequal growth and one of the largest racial wealth gaps in the country. It’s also the home of our innovative new pilot, the Upward Project.

Too few families in Dallas are aware of how federal tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit can put thousands of dollars in their pockets. We are working with our tried and true method of contracting with VITA sites as well as an innovative approach to providing free tax prep through contracting with paid accountants and tax preparers to be in the schools, community centers, and churches that low-income communities in Dallas trust most.

We’ve also begun door-to-door outreach in English and Spanish to help more families learn about tax credits and free tax preparation.

So far, the Upward Project has:

• knocked on over 5,400 doors
• booked more than 300 tax preparation appointments

Our goal is to schedule 400 appointments before the end of summer.
