Tell the Governor and state legislators to protect and strengthen the programs that low-income Californians need

As tax season begins, many Californians are counting on their tax refund to help pay for rent, plan for after-school care and even add to their savings. The cash back they receive from the CalEITC and Young Child Tax Credit puts money in people’s pockets where it’s needed most. In fact, these measures have proven to reduce poverty and build equity, promoting a more prosperous California for all.

We’re grateful for the support of Governor Newsom and the leadership of the Legislature in creating and providing resources for the state’s two most powerful tax credit programs to be successful. Now it’s time to make sure the CalEITC and YCTC programs continue receiving the funding needed to make sure low-income people are able to claim these credits and have the financial support they need.

We urge state lawmakers to ensure investments in Free Tax Preparation Assistance/Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and tax credit outreach and education are maintained at current levels and to prioritize increasing tax credit uptake as part of the final budget agreement.

Tell the Governor and state legislators to protect and strengthen the programs that low-income Californians need to get by.
