Working families deserve better. Children deserve better. Tell the Legislature to ACT.

With threats from the Trump Administration to critical programs like SNAP, EITC, and the Child Tax Credit, millions of working families are facing impossible choices—put food on the table, keep the lights on, pay the rent. That’s not a choice anyone should have to make.

Our state leaders must act to protect those who are already struggling to make ends meet by passing two critical bills under consideration:

AB 397 will expand the Young Child Tax Credit, which currently cuts off support after a child turns six, even though the costs of raising children don’t just magically stop. For 91% of low-income families, this credit helps cover essentials like food, clothing, and shelter. Without this expansion, countless children could slip further into poverty as federal cuts loom and they age out of eligibility.

AB 398 will raise the CalEITC minimum credit from $1 to $300. The CalEITC is one of California’s best tools for reducing poverty and advancing equity, but right now nearly half of recipients receive less than $100—barely enough to cover basics amid skyrocketing costs. Increasing this credit would help 3 million workers and families, giving them much-needed relief.

We cannot delay. California has an opportunity—and an obligation—to act as a safety net.

Californians deserve better. Our children deserve better.

Contact your legislators today and urge them to support AB 397 and AB 398. Together, we can provide relief and build a stronger, more equitable future for all Californians.
